Picture this: You’ve had a long day and you’ve been looking forward to a certain cigar all day long. You get home, only to realize that your cat knocked your beloved cutter of choice off the counter and broke it. Now, you have to scramble to find a way to cut that cigar you’ve been wanting. We know, that’s a funny and probably unlikely scenario, but, in all seriousness, there will probably come a time when you need an emergency DIY cigar cutter. Luckily for you, there are some options. Here are 3 to consider if you’re in a pinch.

Pocket Knife

We understand that this will only work if you commonly carry a pocket knife, but if you don’t, maybe this will encourage you to get a small one for your keys. If you have a pocket knife, you can use it to cut your cigar, but you’ll have to make sure it’s sharp. A dull blade won’t work. It will only cause tearing and frustration. Just be careful cutting and watch for your fingers!

Razor Blade

Another that you’ll have to have at your arsenal, but if you do, can work like a charm. Razors are thin and sharp enough to get through a cigar, but, if possible, you’ll want to use a straight razor because they offer better control. When cutting, use a slow slicing action for the best effectiveness.

Teeth

If both methods above fail, you can always use your teeth. However, we really, really wouldn’t recommend it unless you are incredibly desperate. When you use your teeth to cut a cigar, there’s a good chance you’ll actually crush it instead of cut it. You also run the risk of getting a mouth full of tobacco, which isn’t fun for anyone. However, if your teeth are sharp enough and you’re ok with the above possibilities, you should be able to rotate the head over your tooth and peel away the cap with your fingers.
